In some of the most bizarre news we’ve heard in a while, John Carpenter has taken to Facebook to announce that David Gordon Green and Danny McBride will make the next Halloween film. The comedic duo will write the script together with Green set to get behind the camera to direct. As for Carpenter, he’ll remain on board as executive producer and may even help out with the music.
We say this is bizarre because McBride and Green are probably the last two people we’d ever expect to be hired to bring back the iconic horror franchise. Best known for their work in the comedy genre, neither really have much experience with scaring audiences and last we heard, Blumhouse and Miramax were looking for more horror-oriented filmmakers.
According to Carpenter though, the aforementioned pair have an awesome vision for the project. Check out his Facebook post in full below and see what he had to say:
So you say you want a Revolution?
You want to shake things up and bring back Halloween and make it rock again?Well so do I.
So here’s the announcement you’ve all been waiting for:David Gordon Green and Danny McBride are joining the project to complete the creative team. David and Danny will write the script together and David will direct. I will continue in my executive producer role to consult and offer my advice and feedback as needed.
David and Danny both came to my office recently with Jason Blum and shared their vision for the new movie and…WOW. They get it. I think you’re gonna dig it. They blew me away.
I might even do the music. Maybe. It could be kind of cool.
And you’ll get to see it in theaters on October 19th, 2018.
Speaking briefly about their plans for the next Halloween sequel, here’s what McBride and Green had to share:
“John Carpenter’s ‘Halloween’ was a monumental horror film experience for me and millions of film fans. It’s an honor to be working with this creative team to carve a new path in the tale of Michael Myers,” Green stated.
McBride added, “David and I are thrilled to step outside of our comedic collaborations and dive into a dark and vicious horror. Nobody will be laughing.”
The promise of a “dark and vicious” horror film certainly sounds good to us, even if we are still a bit shocked at the fact that these two will be responsible for reviving one of the most classic and beloved franchises of all-time, in any genre. Then again, with recent outings all failing to impress, perhaps this is exactly what Halloween needs? Something completely unexpected in order to shake things up and get the series back on track. At the very least, we’re certainly intrigued to learn more.
David Gordon Green’s Halloween will creep into theaters on October 19th, 2018, just in time to scare you silly for All Hallows’ Eve.
