In the wake of Warner’s CineEurope presentation, it’s really only a matter of time before the first Aquaman trailer is released online.
Truth be told, DC fans have been itching for this first-look preview for months – if not years – and the fact that it’s already garnered positive buzz all across the industry has only sent expectations spiraling through the roof.
Adding fuel to the fire today is Warner Bros. film chief Toby Emmerich, who told Entertainment Weekly that James Wan has delivered an “extraordinary” expansion of the DC Extended Universe, one that’s capable of steering the superhero franchise in a totally new direction with its “great humor” and the fact it “works on so many levels.”
It’s got the great action you expect, it’s got a lot of great humor, it works on so many levels … it’s a testament to James’ unique vision. I think it’s an extraordinary step in DC Universe that sets it on the right path.
The underwater spectacle will seemingly include sights such as the seven undersea kingdoms and Atlanteans riding great white sharks into battle, and if that looks half as cool as it sounds, we’ll be queueing up to see Aquaman on day one.
Elsewhere, former DC Entertainment president and CCO Geoff Johns went on to elaborate on the film’s wondrous visuals, which will soon transport viewers to the rich, underwater world of Atlantis. Oh, and there’s also mention of Aquaman‘s horror influences, which should come as no surprise given James Wan’s track record.
The underwater stuff has never been executed like this before. The visual effects shots coming in are just beautiful. James can switch modes from horror to big bright colorful action to really emotional scenes. He’s so able to hit all these different genres.
Aquaman makes land this Christmas, and is currently staring down the barrel of a cinematic grudge match involving Bumblebee: The Movie and the long-in-development Alita: Battle Angel. All three movies will compete for the box office throne on December 21st.
