The Internet is still reeling from the news that Robert Pattinson will be taking over from Ben Affleck for Matt Reeves’ The Batman, and understandably so.

Though the actor had been brought up in conversation in regards to the role before, no one ever took the suggestion seriously and most figured it was just a campaign started by some Twilight fans to get Pattinson a bit more recognition. But it looks like Warner Bros. had indeed had their eye on him all along and now, he’ll be our next Dark Knight.

Generally, the reaction to this has been positive, with folks cautiously optimistic and even a little excited to see what he can do with the role. But as expected, there are also a lot of people who just aren’t having any of it and already, the petitioning for WB to find a replacement has begun. We kid you not.

A quick search on the web will bring up multiple petitions that’ve sprung up just in the last few hours, with one of the more recent ones found on Change.org reading as so:

To cast Robert Pattinson or anyone other than Armie Hammer at this point would be a joke.

Another one, meanwhile, simply says:

The problem is self explanatory.

Elsewhere, yet another petition calls it “the worst casting ever” for Batman, writing:

There’s no way Robert Pattinson should play Batman. This is a complete joke! This would be the worst casting ever for the Dark Knight.

Lastly, this petition urges the studio not to make the same mistake they made with Affleck, pleading:

Don’t make the Batfleck mistake again. Don’t do it. For the love of all that is holy, stop trashing the DC Universe.

Of course, none of these petitions have many signatures yet, but don’t forget, it’s only been a few hours since the news was announced and the fact that there are even petitions at all already shows that a lot of people aren’t happy with Warner Bros.’ decision to cast Pattinson in the role.

Then again, when it comes to casting a character as iconic as Batman, you’re never going to please everyone and even if the studio had gone with a more popular pick like Armie Hammer, there still would’ve been fans who made a big stink about it. If you ask us, Robert Pattinson’s a tremendously talented individual who’s been doing a lot of great work recently and honestly, we’re not opposed to seeing what he can do under the cape and cowl. Are you?
