DC Planning Hawkman Movie Starring Muslim Actor, Hawkgirl Will Feature

Sources close to We Got This Covered say that DC is planning a Hawkman movie to star a Muslim actor, with Hawkgirl expected to feature, too.

Hawkman

Though we still don’t know very much about what Warner Bros. has planned for Black Adam, or even when we’ll see him on our screens, we learned earlier today that the character’s solo film will apparently make way for appearances from several other interesting DC characters, including Atom Smasher, Star Girl and Hawkman. And while that’s certainly exciting to hear, what’s even more exciting is the fact that these appearances will act as the studio’s way of setting up spinoffs further down the road.

Sources close to We Got This Covered can confirm that as has been rumored a few times now, WB is definitely developing a Hawkman movie and apparently, are eyeing a Muslim actor (who wasn’t named), between the age of 30-39, for the lead role. Furthermore, it’s said that Hawkgirl will feature as well, though no details on who may play her were disclosed.

Given that there was speculation at one point that the duo might appear in Justice League, along with those aforementioned rumors of such a project happening, it’s not exactly surprising to learn of Warner Bros.’ plans for a Hawkman movie, but it’s nice to finally have some firm confirmation on the matter. And with the character set to first show up in the Black Adam film, we might just hear of some casting sooner rather than later, since the Dwayne Johnson-led pic is set to go into production in late 2019/early 2020.

Hawkman

For those unfamiliar with them, Hawkman and Hawkgirl are two of the longest-serving JLA members. The latter, in particular, will be a favourite of fans of a certain age as she became a founding member of the League in the classic Justice League animated TV show (and its follow-up, Justice League Unlimited).

For what it’s worth, the last time we heard about rumors surrounding a Hawkman film, here’s how it was described:

“Part INDIANA JONES/DA VINCI CODE, part GHOST tentpole about the fictional superhero that appears in D.C. Comic books. He used archaic weaponry and large, artificial wings attached to a harness made of the Nth metal that allows flight. Most incarnations of Hawkman work closely with a partner/romantic interest named Hawkgirl or Hawkwoman in his fight against supervillains. Based on the DC comic.”

It’s obviously still early, early days for the project, so who knows what direction it’ll ultimately go in. For now, we’re just happy to hear that Hawkman is finally headed to the big screen and as soon as we hear more on WB’s plans for him, we’ll let you know.
