So much attention has been paid to the new recruits joining Deadpool 2 (see: Josh Brolin, Zazie Beetz, Julian Dennison) that you’d be forgiven for overlooking the many familiar faces poised to return for the David Leitch-directed sequel.
From T.J. Miller (Weasel) to Karan Soni (Dopinder), Ryan Reynolds (Wade Wilson) to Morena Baccarin (Vanessa), 20th Century Fox has pulled together an A-list cast, and if there’s one character from the 2016 original that fans are eager to see more of – you know, besides the Merc himself – it’s Blind Al. Brought to life effortlessly by Leslie Uggams, Blind Al was essentially Wade Wilson’s roommate in Deadpool, and the offbeat chemistry between the two proved to be one of the funniest dynamics in a film full of them.
And yes, Uggams will return for Deadpool 2, thank the heavens, and as filming continues apace on the sequel’s set in Vancouver, Ryan Reynolds took to Facebook to share a candid behind-the-scenes photo of his Wade Wilson kitted out as the Merc With a Mouth. By his side? Blind Al, and it appears as though this snap was taken from Al’s humble abode. The only question now is, will Wade and Al still share a roof in Deadpool 2, or has the Merc shacked up with Morena Baccarin’s Vanessa? Time will tell.
Deadpool 2 launches into theaters on June 1st, 2018, and it’ll seemingly be funnier than the first. Other Fox tentpoles slated for next year include Josh Boone’s New Mutants (April 13th) and X-Men: Dark Phoenix (November 2nd, 2018), while the studio recently staked out release dates for another six Marvel movies between now and 2021. Word is that one of those launch windows has been reserved for a kid-friendly reboot of Fantastic Four, but we’re still waiting for official confirmation on that front.
