An alternate version of Deadpool 2‘s best post-credits scene was shown at San Diego Comic-Con this weekend to promote the upcoming release of the movie’s Super Duper Cut, an extended edition of the sequel that’ll add 15 minutes of brand new footage. Though the clip has yet to be released online, we do know what it contained, and that’s a tease of Hugh Jackman reprising his role as Wolverine.
The scene in question was the one where Wade goes back in time and revisits X-Men Origins: Wolverine. After he’s killed the movie’s rubbish version of himself, the Merc tells Logan he loves him and leaves. In this version of the sequence, however, DP also gives Wolvie a word of advice: “One day your old pal Wade’s gonna ask you to get back in the saddle again. When he does, say yes.”
It’s a great joke, and could be a tease of things to come, but during the Q&A accompanying the presentation, Ryan Reynolds explained that this version of the scene wasn’t included in the theatrical cut out of fear that fans would mistake it as a promise that Jackman was returning as Wolverine in X-Force. While he could just be hiding the truth and doesn’t want to spoil the surprise, we’d still say don’t hold your breath for Wolvie to show up on screen again. At least, not Hugh Jackman’s version.
Though millions of fans across the world might be praying for him to return, the Australian star really does seem to be done with Logan for good, as he’s said on numerous occasions now that the part of Wolverine’s in his rearview mirror and there isn’t much hope of a Deadpool team-up as “that ship has sailed.”
What’s more, if you want to be really pessimistic, there’s even a chance that X-Force as we know it could never reach theaters, as the Disney/Fox merger might see the ongoing X-Men universe wiped clean. That’d certainly be a shame, but for now, we’ll just have to wait and see what the studio does.
In the meantime, if you want to get your hands on Deadpool 2: The Super Duper Cut, be sure to enter our contest here or simply wait for it to arrive on August 21st (pre-order here).
