These days, post-credit scenes are a staple of any Marvel movie. And we’re not only talking about the Marvel Cinematic Universe. No, almost every film coming to us from the House of Ideas includes a little something extra after those final credits roll and of course, Deadpool 2 is no different.
Unlike the first one, though, which teased Cable’s appearance in the sequel, this outing uses its last few minutes to give us some additional laughs. Which, admittedly, isn’t the worst thing in the world, but may disappoint those yearning for more plot hints as to where the franchise is headed next.
Spoilers will follow from here on out, of course, but if you’re eager to learn what’s in store, join us as we dive right into it all.
According to those who’ve seen the film, things kick off with Negasonic Teenage Warhead and her girlfriend Yoiki fixing Cable’s time traveling device for Wade to use. Once done, DP jumps back through the timeline to “fix” certain situations. The first thing he does, of course, is save Vanessa, who died right near the start of the film. Following that, the Merc also saves Peter, who met his maker during the X-Force’s mission earlier on.
But that’s not all, as Wade Wilson’s got a few other things to set right. First off, he kills Weapon XI aka Deadpool in front of Wolverine. Yes, Hugh Jackman’s clawed mutant is indeed in the film, though it’s just stock footage taken from X-Men Origins: Wolverine with the titular anti-hero composited into it. He gives Weapon XI quite the beating, too, shooting him numerous times to make sure he’s definitely dead.
Finally, before he finishes up, Pool pays a visit to Ryan Reynolds, who’s just completed the Green Lantern script. He doesn’t get much time to feel any pride though, as DP shoots him in the head, before turning to the camera and saying, “you’re welcome, Canada.” And that’s it.
So, once again, there’s nothing here that teases what to expect from a potential Deadpool 3 or even the X-Force movie, but what we do get serves up a ton of laughs – and surprises – and is sure to leave audiences with a smile on their face as they exit the theater. Couple that with those early reactions from press screenings – which have nothing but praise to offer up for the pic – and all signs are pointing to Deadpool 2 being another big hit for the studio when it arrives on May 18th.
