For all the worries fans had about Marvel Studios forgetting what made Fox’s Deadpool movies so great, everything we’re hearing about Deadpool 3 suggests Kevin Feige and co. know exactly what they are doing. Following a torrent of familiar faces being added to the threequel’s cast, two more have now been announced to join them, providing the MCU with a much-needed boost in the LGBTQIA+ rep department.
As originally broken by Deadline, both Brianna Hildebrand and Shioli Kutsuna have closed deals to return for Deadpool 3. Hildebrand previously starred opposite Ryan Reynolds in Wade Wilson’s first two cinematic outings, in the role of X-Men member Negasonic Teenage Warhead. Kutsuna, meanwhile, was added into the mix in Deadpool 2 as Yukio, her mutant ninja girlfriend. This on-screen relationship made the pair the very first openly gay superheroes in any Marvel movie.
Hildebrand and Kutsuna are just the latest returning cast-members from Fox’s franchise, after Morena Baccarin (Vanessa), Karan Soni (Dopinder), Leslie Uggams (Blind Al), Stefan Kapicic (Colossus), and Rob Delaney (Peter). This has raised hopes that Wade’s X-Force team will survive into the movie and flourish in the MCU, something Reynolds himself is teasing. We’re just waiting on news about Zazie Beetz’s Domino and Josh Brolin’s Cable to complete the set.
Naturally, though, these comeback kings and queens will have to compete for screentime with Hugh Jackman, making his own — let’s face it, much grander — return as Wolverine. Meanwhile, fresh additions Emma Corrin and Matthew Macfadyen are likewise on board, probably as villains. Deadpool 3 is get to regenerate into theaters worldwide on Nov. 8, 2024.
