Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds sharing the screen as Wolverine and the Merc With a Mouth? It’s the stuff dreams are made of, really.
In fact, it’s happened before, though the less said about X-Men Origins: Wolverine, the better. Instead, Reynolds wants to rewrite X-Men history so that Logan is still alive, and fit enough to star opposite Wade Wilson in a possible Deadpool/Wolverine team-up movie. Now that’s exciting.
Sure, Avengers: Infinity War has its moments, and Drew Goddard’s X-Force ensemble piece has already shown plenty of promise, but in the comic book space, there are those still crossing their fingers in the hope that Wade Wilson and Logan will one day – one day – join forces on the big screen. Among them is Ryan Reynolds, who revealed to Entertainment Weekly that he’s still coaxing Hugh Jackman out of X-retirement:
He’s alive and well in my timeline. There is a Logan running around out there with a little bushy chest and his little sharpy, sharpy claws, and he is alive and well and ready to go. I would love that.
Alas, as Reynolds concedes, doing so would be a “near-impossible feat,” though fans can always appreciate those little moments when the actor crashes Hugh Jackman’s birthday videos in the meantime.
Reynolds continued:
“I think convincing Hugh of that would be a near-impossible feat, but there’s no human being I love more than Hugh Jackman in that universe, and equally so as a friend. He’s just the best. I already miss him as Logan, so I’m one of those guys that whenever I see him, I’m like, ‘Come on, man. Just one more. Come on. We’ll do it together. It’ll be fun. Come on! On three. Here we go, together. One, two, three, together,’ and it’s always just me saying it.”
So rest assured: Ryan Reynolds is still fighting the good fight in order to bring Hugh Jackman back to the X-Men universe – even if he risks undercutting the finale of Logan. Deadpool 2, meanwhile, will grace theaters on May 18th.
