If you’ve read Mark Millar’s Civil War comic series, you’ll know that it’s something called the Superhuman Registration Act that ultimately causes the rift between former friends and Avengers team-mates, Tony Stark/Iron Man and Steve Rogers/Captain America. Basically, after a group of younger heroes indirectly cause the deaths of civilians, the Government decrees that all super-powered individuals must reveal their secret identities so that tabs can be kept on them.
Stark is on board, but as you can imagine, this doesn’t sit very well with the Sentinel of Liberty.
[zergpaid]So, the upcoming Captain America: Civil War movie will follow suit then… right? Well, no, because in the MCU, the characters don’t have secret identities – so according to BMD, it’ll be something called the “Sokovia Accords” (which you may remember getting a mention in the Ant-Man post-credits stinger) that kick-starts the conflict. Apparently this will have zero to do with secret identities, and will be more about the heroes taking responsibility for their actions, and answering to a Government body.
Of course, we don’t know the specifics of exactly why Iron Man and Cap wind up on opposing sides because of this, but rumor has it that the re-emergence of Bucky “The Winter Soldier” Barnes and his lethal past might have something to do with it.
