When it comes to Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, everyone has been so preoccupied with where said threequel fits into the MCU timeline that few have stopped to ask the question: when, exactly, will James Gunn’s trilogy-capper be released?
Granted, it’s a little early to be dwelling on such thoughts, considering that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is still playing in theaters across the globe – and making a pretty penny for Marvel in the process. But now that Gunn has officially signed on to write and direct Vol. 3 – a threequel that will seemingly complete the Guardians trilogy while simultaneously teeing up a new era for the MCU – the Internet is currently awash with speculation and throwaway rumors pertaining to Guardians 3.
As a matter of fact, James Gunn is already beginning to piece together the necessary story beats for Vol. 3, after holding “pretty intense” meetings with both Chris Pratt and Zoe Saldana, whose Gamora will purportedly enjoy a bigger role in the upcoming threequel. And so, with the wheels beginning to ache into motion, the filmmaker posted a heartfelt status update via Facebook, which included the line: “I love you all, and I’ll continue being here with you over the next three years as we create Vol. 3.”
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 for 2020, then? It’s possible, and would align with the three-year gap between volumes one and two. Even still, take this one with a pinch of salt for the time being.
Exactly when Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will be with us remains a mystery – and given Vol. 2 just debuted in North America, expect that radio silence to remain intact for some time yet – but when it does, Dave Bautista is hoping the nascent Marvel threequel will delve a little deeper into the backstory of Drax the Destroyer.
