Now that they’ve got Mickey’s paws clenched firmly around Pixar, Marvel and LucasFilm, Disney are apparently looking to add Hasbro to their ever-expanding collection of money-making properties. If the deal goes through, you can add movies like Transformers and G.I. Joe to a list that already includes some of the world’s hottest franchises. This is the dream that Walt Disney always envisioned, people: one corporation to rule them all.
Hasbro, of course, make and own the rights to many board games, too, so you can expect Disney to get working on classic adaptations like Risk, Monopoly, Scrabble and Pictionary. Or, you know, just make rides out of them or something at DisneyWorld.
Disney have done seriously well with Marvel – they’ve managed to reel in billions of dollars since they first acquired the company back in 2009. With all these guaranteed crowd-pulling franchises under their belt, there’s seemingly no stopping the House of Mouse from monopolising everything. At this rate, anyway, they could potentially own all things that generate profit by 2017.
In that case, we feel obliged to mention that we most definitely love Disney and all its associated brands and any sarcastic or negative comments contained in this article are, of course, acts of playful jest. Go Mickey!
What do you think about Disney going after Hasbro? Do you like movies made from board games?
