What with Dave Bautista declaring war on the House of Mouse, and the rest of the lovable ragtag crew having officially voiced their solidarity with James Gunn, it certainly does look like The Walt Disney Company, and the man behind the Guardians of the Galaxy movies could be on the path to reconciliation.
Earlier today, CBM (H/T Variety) reported that there’s a “growing feeling” that Gunn might be reinstated, citing the unusual silence radiating from the Mouse House regarding a replacement director, and now, Skyler Shuler, Editor in Chief of TheDisInsider.com, is claiming that a “reinstatement is possible.”
In a Tweet – ironically enough – early this morning, Shuler said that The Walt Disney Company will be sitting down with James Gunn to talk about rehiring him and are taking their time with the situation. Something the House of Mouse clearly did not do when terminating him in the first place. Still, it’s nice to see they’re willing to work on it.
Granted, this source cannot boast the same validity as Variety, but the very existence of a report such as this undeniably lends credence to the notion that Disney’s much more open to bringing Gunn back than we initially thought. Or, at the very least, that the notion’s indeed picking up steam.
For those of you who don’t know, The Walt Disney Company decided to fire the director after disturbing social media comments made in 2011 resurfaced. Since the termination, however, the Mouse House has been the recipient of severe backlash from the Marvel Cinematic Universe community, including but not limited to a petition to rehire the sacked Guardians Of The Galaxy filmmaker, which recently surpassed 300k signatures and is well on its way to 500k.
Whether any of that will help bring James Gunn back or not remains to be seen, but at this point, we’re certainly hopeful.
