It’s certainly no secret that Disney has noticeably struggled as of late to perform exceptionally at the box office and keep a momentous amount of hype attached to its newest projects. As a result, the Mouse House has purposely clogged up its entire schedule — which now consists of 14 upcoming live-action remakes that we simply didn’t ask for. Of course, Disney is set to unveil these projects anyway, but it doesn’t mean we can’t clearly see that originality is dead and buried.
Over on Twitter, an official lineup of Disney’s upcoming live-action remakes was listed — with the entire lineup consisting of 14 projects that the majority of folks truly didn’t ask for. But with original content such as Elemental bombing at the box office recently, it hardly comes as a major surprise that Disney is attempting to play clean-up by touching old roots and focusing on recreating popular flicks.
Then again, a handful of movies on the list have managed to draw some eyes and attract a fair amount of attention — which would be the One Punch Man and Death Note live-action remakes. So while most folks aren’t thrilled with Disney hammering home ideas that have already been done in an attempt to create a bigger crash grab, it’s evident that some films on the list will be added to a portion of watchlists out there.
But with the live-action Moana feeling pointless and a boatload of controversy once surrounding the Lilo & Stitch remake, it’s possible that Disney jumped the gun a little bit and lost focus on creating original pieces that will soon become cult classics if given some extra time and consideration. That being said, we’ll all simply have to sit back and see how well these 14 remakes are received.
