Anthology movies can be so hit or miss, even more so in the horror genre. Sometimes they work, and sometimes they fail terribly. While I adored the first V/H/S, the second had a lesser impact on me, over all. It was good, but didn’t do as much with the V/H/S/ idea as it could have, and the whole story that tied it together was kind of a mess.
But there was one segment in that movie, called Safe Haven, that blew my mind from start to finish. I truly believe, as far as disturbing scenes go, there are so many in this great little story that it deserved a spot on the list. Yes, the entire short.
Safe Haven is a short about a news crew who goes to infiltrate a cult, but are unaware of the role they will take in their larger scheme. So, what is most disturbing about it? Well, you have the mass suicides. You have the demon ripping its way out of that pregnant woman. You have the zombies and kids and, oh, so much blood.
As odd as it may sound, I dig being disturbed by film. Obviously, you do too, or you would not have read this far. Right?
