Deadline is reporting that the wet dream of geeks everywhere has finally come true. Former Doctor Who star Matt Smith has joined Terminator: Genesis. His role is undisclosed, but apparently it’s a smaller part that will grow quite significantly over the next two films in the planned trilogy.

Smith will star alongside an already impressive line-up that includes Game of ThronesEmilia Clarke as Sarah Connor, Jason Clarke (no relation) as John Connor, Jai Courtney as Kyle ReeseDayo Okeniyi as Danny Dyson and of course, Arnold Schwarzenegger as everyone’s favorite cyborg.

Many consider Matt Smith to be one of the better versions of the titular Doctor on BBC’s hit show, so his casting here should definitely be a pleasant surprise for many of his diehard fans who’ve been waiting to see him breakout in Hollywood. The actor hasn’t really done too much film work over the course of his career, but he’s a proven talent thanks to his time on Doctor Who, and his role in Terminator: Genesis will likely be the first of many high-profile gigs that will be coming down the pipeline for him.

Terminator: Genesis will hit theatres on July 1st, 2015. If you’d like to see Matt Smith on the big screen before that, you can check him out in Ryan Gosling’s directorial debut, Lost River, which will open later this year.
