The Crawley family are getting ready to return to our screens with the upcoming Downton Abbey movie. And this time around, they’re tasked with the highest honor: welcoming the King and Queen to Grantham estate.
Yes, the upcoming film, itself based on the wildly popular ITV period drama, will see Dame Maggie Smith, Michelle Dockery and Hugh Bonneville scrambling to prepare for the royal visit. As if that wasn’t stressful enough, they’ve also been left with no maid and no nanny. Heck, there isn’t even a valet! As such, it’d be wise to prepare for high stakes and high drama when the movie arrives in theaters this fall.
But before then, we’ll be getting our first proper look at it tomorrow, when the highly anticipated trailer drops online. We don’t have an exact time for it just yet, but rest assured it’ll be here soon and to heighten the excitement a bit, we’ve been given a brief but tantalizing promo (above) to whet our appetite.
It’s not much, of course, but it’s not like the studio needs to show off a whole lot. After all, the Downton Abbey movie is going to do some very big business. We probably don’t need to remind you that the TV show was an international smash and fans have been clamoring for more ever since it went off the air back in 2015.
Unfortunately, plot details remain pretty thin on the ground, but it’s already been confirmed that Hugh Bonneville, Elizabeth McGovern, Michelle Dockery, Laura Carmichael and Maggie Smith (among others) will be returning. They’ll be joined by a stellar supporting line-up as well that includes Imelda Staunton, Geraldine James, Tuppence Middleton, Simon Jones, David Haig, Kate Phillips and Stephen Campbell Moore.
It’s a very enviable cast of talent, and we’ll get to see them all in action when Downton Abbey sees a UK release on September 13th, 2019, with the US following one week later on September 20th, 2019.
