Things have been pretty quiet for Deadpool 2. The sequel to one of 2016’s most successful films is currently trucking along in development but it hasn’t been moving too quickly. We still don’t know who’s going to be cast in the supporting roles of Cable and Domino (though apparently it will blow our minds once we find out), and Fox hasn’t even announced an official release date yet. With shooting set to get underway this summer though, we imagine the updates will start arriving quite frequently over the coming months and tonight, we have a pretty big one for you.
According to Collider, the hold up on the sequel is due to the screenplay. It’s proving to be a tricky nut to crack and so, the studio has called in Drew Goddard. Apparently, he’ll be taking over for Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick. The outlet doesn’t know how far into the script the duo got, but now, Goddard and star Ryan Reynolds will attempt to get things done so that the project is ready to head in front of cameras this summer.
Goddard is no stranger to superheroes, having at one point been in line to direct a Sinister Six movie for Sony. He was also heavily involved in Netflix’s Daredevil and was instrumental in bringing it to life. Other credits of his include The Martian, Cloverfield and, of course, The Cabin in the Woods. He’s certainly got a strong list of films to his name and for the most part, his work has always been pretty well received. As such, he’ll no doubt bring a lot to the table when it comes to Deadpool 2 and hopefully, him and Reynolds will be able to craft a worthy sequel.
Collider reckons that Fox should be getting ready to announce a release date soon now that the script is hopefully on its way to being finished and once they do, we’ll be sure to let you know. Until then, tell us, are you happy to hear about Drew Goddard getting involved in Deadpool 2? Let us know in the usual place.
