You’d have to go back a long time to find the last out-and-out villain that Dwayne Johnson played on the big screen, which came when he was revealed to be a double agent and the real bad guy all along in 2008’s Steve Carell comedy Get Smart. That doesn’t mean he can’t paint his heroes with certain shades of grey, though, which makes the prospect of seeing him suit up to headline Black Adam all the more exciting.
Of course, the 49 year-old has played his fair share of antiheroes before, most notably in cult favorite Faster, but for the most part he’s remained firmly on the side of good in all of his major projects. That being said, he’s still punched, shot, stabbed, driven and/or barreled his way through plenty of disposable goons during his reign as the world’s biggest movie star.
Johnson continues to hype next year’s DCEU blockbuster as production enters the final stretch, and he’s now issued an ominous warning that Teth-Adam isn’t above snapping evildoers in two should they get on his bad side. Taking to social media to reveal the best look yet at his superhero costume, The Rock confirmed that there’s no such thing as a no-kill rule in Black Adam’s world, and you can read what he had to say below.
“As we all know, superheroes have a code of justice and don’t kill the bad guys. But, Black Adam does. The hierarchy of power in the DC UNIVERSE is changing.”
Obviously, we’re still talking about a PG-13 effort designed to bring in the maximum amount of box office dollars possible, so Black Adam is hardly going to be filled to the brim with exploding heads and severed spinal cords, but it suits the character down to a tee if the star and director Jaume Collet-Serra were to push the boundaries of the rating as far as they possibly can.
