It was only yesterday that the latest developments surrounding Superman: Legacy poured gallons of salt into the open wound left behind by Dwayne Johnson’s failed Black Adam, but things could be about to take an even more unexpected turn after a rumored plot synopsis began making the rounds online.
For anyone who doesn’t remember – which is perfectly okay because it was a fairly forgettable superhero blockbuster in the grand scheme of things – The Rock’s DCU debut focused on a near-omnipotent hero getting caught up in a Middle Eastern conflict that threatened the fate of the world, with a ragtag team of costumed crimefighters caught in the middle as the big bad of the movie threatened to make it all about themselves and their desire to seize unlimited power and influence over the planet.
According to Gunn’s arch-nemesis Grace Randolph, Superman: Legacy will see the Man of Steel become embroiled in a conflict in the Middle East, where he faces some pushback from a Justice Society-like team of heroes, which is presumably where Hawgirl, Guy Gardner, Mister Terrific, and Metamorpho come in.
Meanwhile, Lex Luthor is also trying to manipulate the situation to his advantage in an effort to expand his reach, which is… almost identical to Black Adam. Naturally, there’s no point accepting it as gospel until word comes directly from the writer and director of Superman: Legacy himself, but if the synopsis turns out to be right on the money, then you can easily imagine a single tear rolling down Johnson’s cheek as the storyline that saw him booted out of the DCU gets reused as the catalyst for its rebirth.
