If you thought that the new trailer for Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice would have put an end to the rampant rumors surrounding the hotly-anticipated blockbuster, think again! If anything, the new footage has only created quite a few more questions and this week, one of those queries came to the forefront and gave way to a new rumor: Who’s playing the dead Robin that wore the costume that was on display in Ben Affleck’s Batcave?
In the comics, the second person to take on the Robin moniker was Jason Todd, an orphan that Bruce took under his wing when Dick Grayson left the colorful tights behind to become Nightwing. Jason was later seemingly killed by the Joker, but reappeared in Gotham years later as gun-toting vigilante/anti-hero, Red Hood.
It’s long been rumored that this Death in the Family storyline would play out in the film in some kind of flashback sequence, with the DCCU then going into Red Hood territory for the next Batman solo film. Now that Jason’s Robin costume has been revealed, Heroic Hollywood took to their sources to find out who may have played the role of Jason Todd, and their search yielded one name: Eli Snyder, the son of director Zack Snyder.
[zerg]This wouldn’t be the first time Snyder turned to his son for a small role in one of his films; Eli played a young Leonidas in 300 and a young Rorschach in Watchmen. So, the idea of Eli taking on the small role of a soon-to-be-dead Robin make sense, especially since the role would likely be recast when Todd comes back as Red Hood somewhere down the line.
Shortly after reporting their findings, Zack Snyder himself threw fuel onto the fire by posting the following picture to his private Instagram, which was then shared by photographer Clay Enos (the man behind those Batman V Superman costume reveals), with the caption, “Boy Wonder?”
At this time, it’s unclear whether or not Snyder is confirming the rumor or simply playing around with fans, but we’ll find out for certain if Eli Snyder is playing Jason Todd when Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice hits theaters on March 25th, 2016.
