It’s official: Flashpoint is no longer a rudderless ship.
More than a year has passed since Rick Famuyiwa parted ways with Warner Bros. – the Dope filmmaker dropped out due to creative differences all the way back in 2016 – and now, the studio has tapped Spider-Man: Homecoming scribes John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein to helm Barry Allen’s long-anticipated solo movie. That means things will surely get moving soon and at long last, the project will get off the ground.
For those who may not know, the “Flashpoint” arc from the comics sees Barry Allen zip back in time to save his mother, but he inadvertently triggers a domino effect that spreads throughout the DC Universe. And so, Thomas and Martha wind up surviving that infamous mugging, but the untimely death of Bruce leads the Wayne family down two very separate tracks: one to vigilantism, the other to sheer, unbridled villainy.
It’s been confirmed that Batman will be integral to the Flashpoint film and it’s widely assumed that Jeffrey Dean Morgan will be reprising his role as Thomas from Batman V Superman in the production. Granted, that hasn’t been confirmed just yet, but the actor has strongly hinted at it several times now and if for some reason the studio goes with another person to play the part, fans will surely riot.
And so, on that note, we’ve now got some epic new fan art to share with you today from Bryan Zap, which features none other than Flashpoint Batman front and center. Whether or not he’ll actually appear like this in the film itself is unknown, of course, but it’s a cool look at the character and only has us that much more excited to see the project come to life.
Check it out in the gallery down below, along with some of Zap’s other work, and see what you think:
Pretty cool, eh? Though the “Flashpoint” arc has been quite faithfully adapted as an animated movie, Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox, and served as loose inspiration for season 3 of The Flash TV series, seeing it realized with a massive Hollywood budget is enough to make us hyperventilate. And if Jeffrey Dean Morgan ends up playing Batman, well, that’ll just be the icing on the cake here.
Flashpoint is currently on track to race into theaters at some point in 2020, with both Gal Gadot and Ben Affleck said to be making cameos. Further details on the project are scarce at this early stage, and understandably so, but we’ll be keeping you right up to date as production progresses.
