It seems that the actor is hoping for a familiar environment in which to make his debut, as he has picked up Christina Hendricks and Ben Mendelsohn as well. For those unfamiliar with the plot of How To Catch A Monster, check it out below.

How to Catch a Monster weaves elements of fantasy noir, and suspense into a modern day fairytale. Set against the surreal dreamscape of a vanishing city, Billy, a single mother of two, is swept into a macabre and dark fantasy underworld while her teenage son discovers a secret road leading to an underwater town. Both Billy and Bones must dive deep into the mystery, if their family is to survive.”

When I first heard that Gosling was planning to direct, I must admit, I was a bit surprised. His acting career is starting to really take off and over the past few years he has given some truly excellent performances. He has always been a solid actor but it wasn’t until Blue Valentine that things really started changing for him. The last thing I expected him to do was direct, especially when he’s been on such a role in the acting world.

That being said, I still have full faith that Ryan Gosling will be able to make the transition easily and give us something of quality. After all, he’s worked with a number of excellent directors and he’s surely learnt a lot. How To Catch A Monster sounds pretty interesting and I’m definitely intrigued by what Gosling is planning. Hopefully he won’t find a new love behind the camera because he’s just starting to enter his prime and I think I speak for most people when I say that the young actor still has many, many bright years ahead of him in front of the camera.

What do you think? Are you looking forward to Ryan Gosling’s directorial debut?
