When it comes to people everyone loves, there are only a few. Raymond, Hanks and even Ewan McGregor. You can throw a dart and find someone impressed by the actor, but, apparently, his children are a bit of an exception, at least with respect to his movies.
While promoting his You Sing Loud, I Sing Louder release at the Karlovy Vary Film Festival in the Czech Republic, the 52-year-old told Variety he would first show his kids the scene from Trainspotting where his character Mark Renton climbs into a toilet. He also says he was not there when his daughter Clara watched the piece for the first time and, what happens in life where one can have something like this for their children is very unconventional.
“I did used to show my kids ‘the toilet scene.’ Just for a laugh. It’s a unique situation, perhaps, for a father to be able to show his children footage of him going down the toilet. I [also] have a memory of showing Clara Moulin Rouge!, however. I think she was 9 years old. I put it on, and then I hear this crying. I rushed in, asking if I should switch it off and she went: ‘Noooo’!”
McGregor added that he will always see director Danny Boyle (who was his first-ever film director) as an important person in his life and his new project about a man on the road also stars his daughter. McGregor says working together was a beautiful experience and ended up being authentic to their lives moreso than two strangers who have to play as if family.
“We had an opportunity to spend that period of time really together, which is unusual. Day one, we arrived, saw each other at the make-up truck and chit-chatted. From that moment on, it was natural and just… normal. It allowed us to be together. You don’t act in front of your daughter and you don’t act in front of your dad. You act with them and that’s the beauty of it. You are finding that moment of truth. When you do that with someone you love as much as you love your daughter, it’s extraordinary.”
The You Sing Loud, I Sing Louder project has not yet gotten a wide release date as of this story’s filing. It debuted on the festival circuit in March and, aside from this, McGregor is working on A Gentleman in Moscow for Paramount Plus. He will always be known for playing Obi-Wan Kenobi, and, while the character did get a limited Disney Plus series which seemingly wrapped his story, McGregor has seemingly teased in recent months this is not necessarily the end for his jedi hero.
