Ewan McGregor Spotted Looking A Lot Like Obi-Wan Kenobi

The Star Wars universe is on a seemingly unstoppable roll at the moment, and that looks set to continue well into the future. After the smashing success of Star Wars: The Last Jedi, not to mention Rogue One and The Force Awakens, Lucasfilm has already begun making plans for their next spinoff, one which will revolve around none other than Obi-Wan Kenobi.

Stephen Daldry is in talks to direct and from what we understand, the project is still without a script and in the very, very early stages of development. As such, it’s unclear if Ewan McGregor will pick up the lightsaber for this Star Wars offshoot, though given how keen the Scot has been in the past, we’re inclined to believe he’ll sign on without a second’s hesitation.

Not only that, but the actor has now been spotted sporting a very Obi-Wan-esque look, while also getting in shape for an upcoming role. It’s by no means confirmation that he’s set to feature in the spinoff, but the stars are certainly starting to align quite nicely, wouldn’t you say?

Again, this photo doesn’t for sure mean that McGregor is preparing to enter that galaxy far, far away once again, but we certainly hope that’s what’s going on here. After all, despite much speculation, it turned out the beloved character had no role to play in Star Wars: The Last Jedi, which is a little disappointing when you consider that McGregor’s voice was heard briefly during The Force Awakens.

Last we reported on the spinoff, Lucasfilm had seemingly selected ‘Joshua Tree’ to be the film’s placeholder, whereas previous working titles within the Star Wars franchise have included the likes of Red Cup (Solo), Blue Harvest (Return of the Jedi) and Space Bears (The Last Jedi). We also know that it’ll start shooting in 2019, at London’s Pinewood Studios.

That’s about all we’ve got to go on, though, and while the studio is yet to announce any form of timeline for its nascent Obi-Wan spinoff, we’re inclined to believe the Stephen Daldry-directed origin story will be slotted between Episode IX and Rian Johnson’s forthcoming Star Wars trilogy, which will, through time, future-proof Disney’s crown jewel long into the 2020s.
