Not for the first time, Ewan McGregor has reaffirmed his commitment to the role of Obi-Wan Kenobi, even if he isn’t quite sure if he’ll ever wield a lightsaber again as the famed Jedi Knight.
Screen Rant caught up with the former Star Wars actor to ask that million-dollar question: is McGregor planning another trip to that famous, far-away galaxy? Or better still: does he even know what Lucasfilm is rustling up for Kenobi: A Star Wars Story.
That was the tentative title given to the Anthology flick announced last summer, when Oscar-nominated filmmaker Stephen Daldry was linked with the director’s chair. But ever since Solo: A Star Wars Story struggled to light up the box office in the way Lucasfilm would have hoped, the standalone Obi-Wan movie has reportedly stalled, and it seems McGregor isn’t privy to any more knowledge than you or I.
Via Screen Rant:
I don’t know anything more about it than you do I’m afraid to say. I really don’t, but I’d be up for it. You know that.
Assuming Lucasfilm has placed all standalone Star Wars movies on hold for the time being (Boba Fett included), perhaps there’s a better chance Ewan McGregor will reprise his role for the as-yet-untitled Episode IX?
It’s a stretch, mind you, as the studio has just announced the full ensemble cast for the 2019 sequel and, sadly, Obi-Wan didn’t make the roll call. There was a slot for Billy Dee Williams as the smooth-talking Lando Calrissian, though, so at least there’s that.
Still, the uncertainty surrounding the Obi-Wan Kenobi film leaves us feeling a little apprehensive about that purported start date in April.
