Making its debut in American theatres this Friday, Hector and the Search for Happiness could be just the ticket for those wandering souls already feeling stifled by the onset of fall, and the start of a new school year. The film stars Simon Pegg as the eponymous Hector, a depressed psychiatrist who sets off on a globe-spanning adventure to find out what it is that makes people happy.
Hopping between between Asia, Africa and the States, Hector’s journey sees him bumping into character actors the world over, including Stellan Skarsgård, Christopher Plummer and Toni Collette. Joining him along for the ride digitally is his London-bound girlfriend, Clara, played by Rosamund Pike.
While the film itself didn’t make our reviewer particularly happy, all signs point to the pair of Pegg and Pike being just as winning a combo in Hector as they were in last year’s The World’s End. But where in the world could one find such a duo? Why, in Toronto, Canada, of course! Supporting Hector‘s premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival, we caught up with the film’s stars to chat about Simon’s worldly travels, Rosamund’s big year, and whether we’ll be seeing the two onscreen with Tom Cruise anytime soon.
Check out our video interview above, and be sure to catch Hector and the Search for Happiness when it opens on September 19th!
