In contrast to its pretty much universally-beloved predecessor, rumour has it that Deadpool 2 has received a surprisingly negative reception from test audiences. Apparently, these early reactions have got Fox very worried, and could be a major reason for the reshoots that have been going on for the past few weeks.
As we reported earlier, former IGN editor Jeremy Conrad has now added to the speculation by outlining some of the offenses that Deadpool 2 commits which have caused the alleged backlash. While you can read about that in our previous article, one scene that Conrad detailed suggests that a familiar X-Men villain will make an appearance in the upcoming sequel.
Warning: we could be getting into some major plot spoilers here, so proceed with caution…
Conrad explained that “a long-time fan-favorite” will turn up in Deadpool 2. This doesn’t narrow it down much at all, but his comment that the character is also an “internet meme” heavily suggests only one name: Juggernaut. While this sounds like good news for fans, unfortunately, the sequel won’t treat Cain Marko any better than Vinnie Jones’ notorious portrayal in X-Men: The Last Stand did.
Here’s what’ll allegedly go down:
“Fans of comic books will also be upset at how a long-time fan-favorite (and internet meme) villain is once again treated on the big screen. Oh this time he looks a little closer to his comic book look (thanks to CG), but they make him disposable with a really stupid death. Two characters notice his pants are ripped exposing his crack, so they shove a sparking power cable up his butt and push him into a pool.”
If you still aren’t buying it, then it’s worth remembering that it was reported last year as well that Juggernaut might show up in Deadpool 2, as set photos revealed an actor wearing a head piece looking very much like the character’s recognizable helmet. So, all the evidence is pointing to an appearance from the villain, then, even if it might be another letdown. Let’s just hope those reshoots can smooth out some of these problems.
Deadpool 2 hits cinemas on May 18th, by which point we’ll have a much better idea of what’s in store for the Merc with a Mouth in his second solo outing.
