Armed with his magical suitcase and that flowing blue coat, Newt Scamander heads underground in today’s all-new action shot for Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes Of Grindelwald.
Revealed via Entertainment Weekly, the striking pic is perfectly framed, and sees Eddie Redmayne’s dashing hero stare off into the distance at someone…or something. Exactly who (or what) has grabbed Newt’s attention is a total mystery at this early stage, but we imagine it has something to do with his pursuit of Gellert Grindelwald (Johnny Depp), the dark, enigmatic wizard who has – surprise! – escaped the clutches of MACUSA (Magical Congress of the United States of America).
And that’s where The Crimes Of Grindelwald begins. Down below, you’ll find that aforementioned close-up along with a candid set photo of Eddie Redmayne sharing a laugh with co-star Jude Law, who’s primed to make his Harry Potter debut as the young Albus Dumbledore.
Dubbed a “richer” and “more thrilling” film than the first – aren’t they all? – Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes Of Grindelwald will deep dive into J.K. Rowling’s magical world in 2018, and director David Yates believes his hotly-anticipated sequel will have the element of surprise.
Via EW:
The first film had a level of whimsy; the characters felt like children in grown-up bodies. In this movie, it gets grittier and more nuanced and detailed. It’s quite a romantic film, it’s a thriller, it’s quite an interesting combination of genres you rarely see together. I think it will surprise people.
Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes Of Grindelwald will be summoned into theaters on November 16th, 2018, by which point Warner Bros. may begin shifting the focus over to Jude Law’s Albus Dumbledore. Remember, there are another three Fantastic Beasts films in the pipeline, and Newt Scamander won’t necessarily stay around forever.
