Nothing says Friday quite like a behind-the-scenes video for F. Gary Gray’s action sequel, Fast 8.
In the latest episode of Universal’s long-running series, the Straight Outta Compton filmmaker introduces viewers to the movie’s vast archive of supercars, from bleeding-edge Bugattis to an armored assault vehicle. It’s enough to make any petrolhead go weak at the knees, and it’ll be fascinating to see the eye-watering action sequences that Gray and Co. have dreamt up using their reserve of high-tech automobiles.
From Cuba to Iceland to a grand finale in New York City, Fast 8 will retain the franchise’s knack for a globetrotting adventure, while the promise of a more gruff, back-to-basics role for Luke Hobbs ought to keep fans of Dwayne Johnson intrigued.
Speaking of upholding tradition, Johnson is part of an all-star cast that includes Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez, Jordana Brewster, Tyrese Gibson, Chris “Ludacris” Bridges, Elsa Pataky, Nathalie Emmanuel, Lucas Black, Jason Statham, Kurt Russell, Suicide Squad star Scott Eastwood, Kristofer Hivju, Helen Mirren, and Charlize Theron.
Fast 8 will drift into theaters on April 14. Plans are in place for two additional sequels beyond 2017, not to mention chatter of character-driven spinoffs. One thing’s for sure: We haven’t seen the last of Vin Diesel and his crew of petrolheads yet.
