Though the script isn’t even complete, we’re already hearing reports on the plot for Fast 8. We may not know a whole lot just yet, but today, Deadline is reporting that the film will feature a “fierce female villain” as the sole antagonist.
Director F. Gary Gray and writer Chris Morgan already have their eye on a particular actress for the role as well: Charlize Theron. Deadline says that given that she’s coming off a tremendous performance in Mad Max: Fury Road and has worked with Gray before on The Italian Job, she’d be a solid candidate. Unfortunately, though, nothing has been confirmed at this time.
Seeing as The Fast and the Furious is one of the most testosterone heavy franchises around, it’s certainly welcome to hear that the eighth instalment will be featuring a strong female character for the villain. It’ll mark a nice change of pace for the series and with the right actress in the role, it could definitely turn out to be a memorable outing.
After all, previous instalments have had strong female supporting characters that’ve left a mark, so there’s no reason to think that a female antagonist wouldn’t work out, too, right?
Fast 8 is set to race into theatres on April 14th, 2017. We’ll keep you posted when we hear of anything official on the casting front, but for now, tell us, who would you like to see take the role?
