After a long hiatus and period of uncertainty following the tragic death of star Paul Walker last year, Universal’s Fast & Furious 7 is back on track and production has started up again. Today, Vin Diesel shared with fans a rather emotional image from the upcoming blockbuster (above), showing his character Dom Toretto embracing his sister Mia (Jordana Brewster).
For those who are unfamiliar with the franchise, Dom and Mia were the closest friends of Brian O’Conner (Walker); Dom was his best bud, and Mia was both his wife and the mother of his child. However, in this image, both look quite happy, and it appears that they are either greeting each other for the first time in a long while or saying goodbye.
Does this mean that Mia will be able to ride off into the sunset with Brian, getting the happy ending that most of Walker’s fans have called for since the actor’s death? Walker’s brothers, Caleb and Cody Walker, are filling in for him to help the franchise give Brian a fitting send-off, but we don’t know much of anything about what the character’s departure will actually look like.
We do know that the film will pick up after Dom and his crew successfully dispatched Owen Shaw and his evil crew of car-racing mercenaries, with Owen’s brother Luke (Jason Statham) coming after them and looking for revenge. In the post-credits sequence of Fast & Furious 6, we learned that Luke was responsible for the death of Han Seoul-Oh (Sung Kang), who had been a major part of the franchise since Fast Five. So this time it’s personal for Dom and his crew. And with the mission of honoring their fallen co-star, I’m sure this film is very personal for all of the cast and crew members involved as well.
The James Wan-directed flick also stars Dwayne Johnson, Michelle Rodriguez, Jason Statham, Ludacris, Tyrese Gibson, Ronda Rousey, Tony Jaa, Nathalie Emmanuel, Lucas Black, John Brotherton, Djimon Hounsou, and Kurt Russell. Fast & Furious 7 will (finally) speed into theaters on April 10th, 2015.
