New Promo Confirms Terminator: Dark Fate’s A Direct Sequel To Judgment Day

Franchise veteran James Cameron has confirmed Terminator: Dark Fate as the sequel to T2: Judgment, arguably the finest Terminator film of the lot.

Ask any movie fan to name the most convoluted film franchise and they’ll likely point you in the direction of Terminator.

It uses time travel, for one, and has so far produced five features of varying quality. Dark Fate hopes to change all that come November though – albeit with some time travel thrown in for good measure.

Heralding the return of writer-producer James Cameron and Sarah Connor herself, Linda Hamilton, there’s a crackle of excitement swirling around Terminator: Dark Fate, particularly now that the sci-fi sequel has debuted its action-packed first trailer. And while it’s technically the sixth installment in this most beloved franchise, Cameron considers it to be T2‘s “direct sequel.” But don’t just take our word for it; here’s the movie maestro talking all things Dark Fate in a new featurette:

Dark Fate is the direct sequel to Terminator 2: Judgment. We pick up the characters that we knew from Terminator 2, and we carry them forward. This film captures the spirit of those first two movies – it’s gritty, it’s intense, and it’s just a white-knuckle ride.

Welcome to a post-Judgment Day world, where the remnants of humanity are still being hunted by Skynet and their bipedal weapons of war. This being a Terminator movie, we have a sneaking suspicion that Gabriel Luna’s robot has been sent back from the future, presumably to kill Natalia Reyes’ mystery character.

She’s seemingly the catalyst of Dark Fate and its apocalyptic story, though director Tim Miller is quick to welcome Cameron and Hamilton back to the franchise they helped create all those years ago.

We get Jim [Cameron] back writing in the producer’s chair. He knows the material like nobody else. I think for fans of the franchise, the biggest thing is that Linda’s returning.

Terminator: Dark Fate boots online November 1st, 2019. And unlike Genisys, there’s no talk of a potential franchise this time around; Miller and his team seem to be pouring all their creative energies into this one entity. And thank the heavens for that.
