By now, over a month since Star Wars Celebration went down in Orlando, you’d think that all the juicy tidbits to come out of the event would have surfaced online. Apparently not, though, as Entertainment Weekly’s got one more for us today, and if you’re a fan of John Boyega’s former Stormtrooper turned Resistance fighter Finn, it’ll definitely put a smile on your face.
Given the events at the end of The Force Awakens, which saw the character suffer a devastating injury, it was speculated that he might not have too large of a role to play in Star Wars: The Last Jedi. Further fuel was added to that particular fire when the first teaser surfaced and showed our fearless fighter in some sort of medical pod, unconscious and presumably recovering from Kylo Ren’s lightsaber blow.
Despite this, it sounds like Finn is still going to be pretty involved in Rian Johnson’s upcoming film. While chatting with EW, the actor had the following to say:
“The funny thing is, between VII and VIII, Finn’s now a big deal! He is now a big deal. Imagine that – you get taken down by Kylo Ren. Think about what the gossip’s going to be like in the Resistance. ‘Oh, that’s the guy that got slashed down by Kylo?’”
Of course, that doesn’t mean we should expect him to be saving the day without any sort of help. As Boyega notes, Finn suffered a pretty bad injury, and it won’t be easy to get back on his feet.
“There’s some additional few things that need to be done to make him mobile. He’s definitely in a place where he needs some help,” the actor said. “It’s a grounding injury. It’s going to take him some time to get back on the ball. But when he does… oh, he does.”
What exactly will Finn be up to then once he fully recovers? Well, it seems like it’ll be something quite important, as him and Rose are sent on a big mission by the Resistance.
“It’s Finn and Rose, they’re on a massive adventure. It’s a big mission they need to complete,” Boyega says. “The Resistance is under immense pressure, and it’s time for them to get a bit of help. That’s where Finn and Rose come in, and they’re thrust into a crazy adventure.”
Just what this “crazy adventure” is remains to be seen, but it certainly sounds exciting and we’ll soon find out, as on December 15th, Star Wars: The Last Jedi will make a beeline for theaters the world over and uncover the next – and seemingly crucial – chapter in the Skywalker saga.
