If you’ll recall, Paramount and Platinum Dunes were planning on giving us a new Friday the 13th back in October of 2017, but the spooky corridor went to another horror title in the end: Happy Death Day.
Blumhouse and Christopher Landon’s sleeper hit found inspiration in movies like Groundhog Day and Scream and ended up being a very entertaining package – even if the final product proved to be a bit too familiar for some. Still, Happy Death Day did quite well for itself at the box office, bringing in over $100 million on a production budget of just $4.8 million. As such, we’re now getting a sequel in the form of Happy Death Day 2U, arriving on February 14th, 2019, and the first trailer has just hit the web.
Though this has already been playing in theaters for a while, today’s the first time that fans can watch the footage from the comfort of their own homes and as you can see, it looks like the sequel is about to capture the same magic that made the original such a pleasant surprise. Promising scares, a higher body count and more bloody kills, it certainly looks like we’re in for a good time and for additional information, you can consult the plot summary below:
Jessica Rothe leads the returning cast of HAPPY DEATH DAY 2U, the follow-up to Blumhouse’s (Split, Get Out, The Purge series) surprise 2017 smash hit of riveting, repeating twists and comic turns. This time, our hero Tree Gelbman (Rothe) discovers that dying over and over was surprisingly easier than the dangers that lie ahead.
As the summary mentions, Jessica Rothe is back as Tree and joining her will be Israel Broussard as Carter Davis, Tree’s boyfriend from the first film. Meanwhile, Ruby Modine reprises her role as Lori Spengler with Suraj Sharma and Sarah Yarkin also starring.
While Happy Death Day was far from a perfect horror film, it was an inventive and often clever little slasher flick that left most fans pretty pleased. The sequel’s got some good buzz surrounding it as well so with any luck, Blumhouse will hit it big again and deliver a worthy second outing for the franchise in Happy Death Day 2U.
