Just because they’ve lent Peter Parker to Marvel Studios doesn’t mean that Sony aren’t interested in moving forward with their own Spider-Man-related projects. On top of the recent news that Tom Hardy would be playing Eddie Brock AKA Venom in a live-action movie, here’s a reminder that another wallcrawler will soon be making his way to the big screen.
The untitled animated Spider-Man movie will feature Dope‘s Shameik Moore as Miles Morales with Liev Schreiber as a yet unrevealed villain. That’s about all we currently know about the film’s content, but at least we now have our first glimpse at two posters for the movie. Collider spotted them while attending the Licensing Expo in Las Vegas, and you can check them out in the gallery above.
As you can see, the posters sport a fresh take on the Spider-Man logo as it’s stylized to look like graffiti. It also features the classic colour scheme of red and blue. This is a curious decision, as Miles Morales’ costume in the comics is red and black. Will the character be redesigned for the movie? We sure hope not, as Miles’ unique look is part of what makes him such a different character from Peter.
The second poster also features an interesting detail. In addition to the graffiti logo, it reads “The Animated Movie.” Is this just a placeholder title for the moment, or will the film actually be called Spider-Man: The Animated Movie? Time will tell, but color us intrigued.
Whatever moniker it ends up taking on, Sony’s Spider-Man film will be directed by Rise of the Guardians‘s Peter Ramsey and Puss in Boots’ Bob Persichetti. The script is written by Phil Lord and Chris Miller based on a story by them and Gravity Falls creator Alex Hirsch. Given the number of animation experts and talent on board, we imagine that the project will probably be a pretty big success when it swings into cinemas on December 14th, 2018.
