The big property that was teased by Talk To Me‘s creators has finally been revealed. Rising filmmakers and YouTubers RackaRacka have announced that their next big project won’t be a huge superhero franchise that everyone expects. It’s a video game, but the duo will have a lot of work to do if they want to make this title a success considering its history with past releases.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Australian filmmaking duo is currently doing final negotiations with Legendary Entertainment to direct a Street Fighter movie. Legendary Entertainment acquired the rights to the film and TV releases for the popular Capcom game back in early April 2023 and it’s quite fitting considering how they’re known for their violent and action-heavy content online.

It was rumored that the Philippou Brothers scored a “low- to mid-seven-figure deal” to work on the movie and it’s currently unknown if they were selected due to the success of their filmmaking debut. At the same time, a writing team has not yet been revealed.

This isn’t the first time Street Fighter has received a movie adaptation. The first movie was released in 1994 and it didn’t get the best reception. It received an average critic score of 11 percent and an audience score of 20 percent. The same could be said for the other adaptations that followed it, where a low-score trend lingered across the franchise.

Hopefully, the filmmaking brothers could finally do this video game justice, considering that recent video game films and TV adaptations, such as The Last of Us and The Super Mario Bros. Movie, were highly praised by audiences. At the same time, the duo has a history of making entertaining viral and action-packed content.

The Philippou Brothers found their filmmaking success thanks to their upcoming horror film, Talk To Me, which currently has a high critic score of 97 percent and had its worldwide debut at Sundance Film Festival. The Australian-made horror flick is set to hit theaters on July 28, 2023.
