Frank Grillo truly stole the show in Captain America: The Winter Soldier earlier this year with his performance as Brock Rumlow, who comic book fans will immediately recognize as the supervillain Crossbones. Rumlow’s fate may have been left ambiguous by film’s end, but the comics tell us that he’ll play a substantial role in the Marvel universe going forward.
Those hoping that Crossbones’ story will play out as written will be happy to know that The Winter Soldier wasn’t the last time we’ll see him, as Grillo himself has confirmed that he’s signed one of those famous multi-picture deals with Marvel Studios. Currently, the actor is out promoting his new series Kingdom and broke the news in an interview with Collider:
“I have a multi-contract deal with Marvel. The movie was an origin film for that character. If you know the comic, he has a significant presence. So, knock wood. With Marvel, you can’t say very much, but I’m cautiously optimistic that we’ll have some fun in the next few Marvel movies.”
Of course, Grillo having a multi-picture deal doesn’t guarantee future performances (if you remember, Hugo Weaving had such a deal for Red Skull, and has yet to show up again), but Crossbones’ ties to Captain America’s future and the Civil War storyline suggest that he’ll be back before too long.
