You know his name and in 2016, Jason Bourne is staging a comeback. Having slipped off the radar a full 12 years ago with Ultimatum, Matt Damon’s trained super-spy is back in business, with today’s latest batch of photos arriving from the sequel’s set in Woolwich, London.
Truth be told, the images don’t offer much in the way of plot, which has remained under lock and key ever since the cameras began rolling in mid-2015. A recent Super Bowl teaser did offer some insight into the altered landscape that Bourne is about to step foot on though, and it’s anything but sunshine and rainbows.
Teetering on the brink of an international conflict, Paul Greengrass’ anticipated actioner finds a world at war, and the sudden reappearance of Damon’s agent – sporting all of his memories – raises more questions than answers for the likes of Julia Stiles’ operative and her peers.
Jason Bourne‘s mission, then, will have him go up against Vincent Cassel’s big bad, with Damon recently teasing that “technically when the Bourne character disappears, it’s still 2004. So when this next one comes out in ’16, it will have been 12 years — in movie years — that the character as been off the grid. So what’s happened in those intervening years gives you a story.”
Poised to delve deeper into government conspiracies in a post-Snowden world, Jason Bourne will hope to welcome back Universal and Paul Greengrass’ dormant juggernaut in style when the action sequel releases on July 29. Riz Ahmed, Alicia Vikander and Tommy Lee Jones also on board to star.
