British actress Carey Mulligan hasn’t exactly struggled for interesting work ever since her Oscar nominated role in An Education. Her upcoming projects include the Nicolas Winding Refn Cannes award winner Drive, artist Steve McQueen’s Shame with Michael Fassbender and in July she will shoot The Great Gatsby in Australia with Baz Luhrmann. Today it has been announced another project based in Australia has come her way.
Oscar nominated writer/director Gary Ross, most well known for directing Seabiscuit and co-writing Big, and who is currently shooting The Hunger Games, has signed her on to star in a sci-fi actioner called Outback. The details are slim but obviously it will be set down under. It is set up at Graham King‘s production house GK Films and Ross will write the screenplay as well as direct.
The film will most likely shoot after he finishes up The Hunger Games, which suggests he may not sign on for the sequels. The Hunger Games opens on March 23rd, 2012 and Outback will presumably begin framing some time after that.
