During the first round of press interviews for Terminator: Genisys, Jai Courtney tried to flummox reporters by steering them away from the movie’s central love story. Granted, the fifth instalment in the sci-fi franchise isn’t a straight-up remake, reboot or sequel – it’s actually a reset. Still, the love story between his character, Kyle Reese, and the mother of humanity’s savior Sarah Connor (Emilia Clarke) ,was never going to be written out of the movie. The circumstances may change, but the chemistry remains the same.
And now there’s documented proof of the pair’s romantic entanglement. Thanks to the folks at The Terminator Fans, a TV spot edited for German audiences has hit the web and it includes a few brief glimpses at new footage. Sarah and Kyle’s first liplock is included along with shots of Arnold Schwarzenegger’s “Guardian” Terminator driving and a slightly different edit of the Golden Gate bridge sequence.
If your command of the German language isn’t up to scratch, don’t worry. Most of the scenes have cropped up in the English language trailers, but one new line from the spot was handily translated by TTF. Arnie’s dialogue while he’s driving the car is “Skynet built a new Terminator to stop us.” Hardly revelatory, but it’s nice to see the ageing T-800 can still operate behind the wheel.
Check out the new spot above and let us know if you spotted any other new shots.
Terminator: Genisys opens in 2D, 3D, and IMAX 3D on July 1 in the US and July 3 in the UK.
