It was a cinematic magic trick that only M. Night Shyamalan could pull off – revealing to viewers that Split and Unbreakable took place in the same universe.
Such an ambitious crossover led us to this moment, as we stand on the verge of Shyamalan’s third and presumably final ‘super’ thriller. Its name? Glass, and after delivering an electrifying trailer back at San Diego Comic Con, Universal has now debuted a brand new preview which is equally as exciting and thrilling.
Embedded up above, this fresh batch of footage once again places the focus on the three superpowered individuals at the core of the movie. That’d be David Dunn (Bruce Willis), the frail-bodied mastermind Elijah Price (Samuel L. Jackson) and James McAvoy’s bat-shit insane character who has more personalities than we can count – Dennis, Barry, Patricia… and each is more psychotic and sociopathic than the last. As with the previous trailer, this one’s very unsettling, quite dark and a million miles away from any other superhero film out there. In short, it has us begging for more.
As far as the plot goes, we understand that following the disturbing events of Split, in which Kevin’s numerous personalities were on full display, David Dunn emerges from the dark in order to track The Beast, leading to a “series of escalating encounters” between the two men.
Just as things begin to get out of hand, though, Samuel L. Jackson’s sharp-suited nemesis enters the fray as an “orchestrator who holds secrets critical to both men.” The exact nature of those “secrets” remains a mystery, of course, but what we can tell you is that American Horror Story alum Sarah Paulson is on board to play a psychiatrist tasked with treating David, Elijah and Kevin.
Look for Glass to shatter its way into theaters on January 18th, 2019, and if this new trailer is any indication, it’s going to be yet another return to form for Shyamalan.
