The Batman
Reeves is keeping his cards close to his chest with regards to The Batman. There’s a reason for this, too. For one, if he reveals too much, the speculation will mount and that’s never a good thing, as expectations usually result in disappointment and fan outrage.
Without stipulating much about the film, we’ve already seen the internet go into overdrive and make up its own mind about what it will and won’t be. Reeves wants to keep everything hush-hush until he’s actually got something official to announce. What we do understand though is that the story will follow a younger Dark Knight – sort of like a younger Joker, if you catch our drift – and be set earlier in his crime-fighting career.
Speaking to /Film, Reeves said the following about the project recently:
“There are ways in which all of this connects to DC, to the DC universe as well. We’re one piece of many pieces, so I don’t want to comment on that except to say that I’m focused very specifically on this aspect of the DC world.”
He continued:
“From the beginning, what I had always spoken about with Warner Brothers and what I was excited about was being in the Batuniverse and really doing something within that sphere. That was always what it was going to be so in that way it hasn’t changed a lot since I first met with them. It’s very much the same thrust if that makes sense. A lot of things have happened since then but the movie, and why I’m excited about it, is it continues to be the same inspirations and excitement of what we talked about in the beginning.”
Interesting to see how he mentioned a Batuniverse, isn’t it? It could be the best indicator that there will be more films to come in this universe. If it was only a one-shot, surely he – and Warner – would’ve said so to allay all the is-Ben-Affleck-coming-or-going fears.
