With the sequel to Steven Soderbergh’s Magic Mike set to shoot this fall, we now have word on who will be directing and what the film will be titled. Greg Jacobs, who has worked with Soderbergh many times as an AD, will be behind the camera for the much anticipated follow-up, which is apparently being called Magic Mike XXL. The Playlist is the one reporting this and though there hasn’t been an official announcement just yet, they say that it’s coming soon.
Most of the main cast is expected to return for the second outing and Soderbergh will be back as well, though he’ll be sitting in the executive producer seat this time around. As for plot details, those are still scarce but Tatum has previously described the sequel as being a road trip comedy. He’ll be writing it along with his creative partner Reid Carolin (the duo wrote the original as well) and given that most of the core team are returning, I think it’s safe to assume that Magic Mike XXL will be every bit as enjoyable as its predecessor. Plus, with the “XXL” added to its title, I imagine that the film will be even bigger and wilder than the original.
With the cat now out of the bag, expect more details on Magic Mike XXL to drop soon. When they do, we’ll be sure to let you know.
