I’m going out on a limb here and saying that everyone in Hollywood is going to appear in Anchorman: The Legend Continues. That’s certainly the ways it’s feeling right now, given the number of people they have been adding to the cast list. According to Deadline, the latest additions to the already impressive cast of the Anchorman sequel are those of Greg Kinnear and Josh Lawson.
Kinnear and Lawson join the ever-growing cast list that already includes newcomers James Marsden, Harrison Ford, Kristen Wiig, Dylan Baker and Meagan Good, and the original cast of Will Ferrell, Christina Applegate, Steve Carell, Paul Rudd and David Koechner. Director Adam McKay wrote the script with Ferrell, just like last time. So this Anchorman is going to be more of the same, only … more so.
Is it just me or is Anchorman: The Legend Continues beginning to sound like a Wes Anderson film? Everyone who has appeared in an Apatow film seems to be joining the cast, and a lot more who never even thought about it. Not that Kinnear and Lawson are not great additions – I just hope this is not going to turn into an endless stream of celebrity cameos without much humor or plot to back it up. There’s something called too much of a good thing.
I have little awareness of Lawson, who is best known for House of Lies, but Kinnear can play comedy with his eyes closed – see Ghost Town or Little Miss Sunshine if you’re not convinced. With that in mind, I am all for these cast additions. As long as they manage to pull off the same kind of magic that gave us the first Anchorman, I will be happy.
We will have to wait and see if Ferrell, McKay and Co. can bring the funny again.
Anchorman: The Legend Continues is currently shooting in Atlanta, for a December 20th release date.
