Grey Hulk Almost Made The Cut For Avengers: Age Of Ultron; Joss Whedon Touches On Quicksilver’s MCU Future

Much like his eye-catching, wonderful stint in Avengers back in 2012, Mark Ruffalo's Hulk had an appropriately large part to play in Joss Whedon's Avengers: Age of Ultron, toplined by the fan-favorite battle between his alter-ego and Iron Man's Hulkbuster armor.

Much like his eye-catching, wonderful stint in Avengers back in 2012, Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk had an appropriately large part to play in Joss Whedon’s Avengers: Age of Ultron, toplined by the fan-favorite battle between his rage monster and Iron Man’s Hulkbuster armor. It was a delightful sequence, but according to a report by Wired, there was a chance that the encounter could have played out with a slightly different tone – or, should we say, shade.

On the silver screen, Bruce Banner’s alter-ego has always morphed into the form of a towering green monster, but there was a moment during the creative process where Hulk, under the mind-bending aura of Scarlet Witch, transformed into the grey-skinned Savage Hulk. It turns out the Big Guy, as Scarlett Johnasson commonly refers to him, stuck to his original shade to appease the film’s colossal fan base.

“Initially, Hulk was actually planned to turn grey when he’s angry Hulk in the Hulkbuster sequence but hey, everybody wanted the green guy. So, in the end, ILM just changed his eyes to make them look more sullen when he’s under the control of Scarlet Witch.”

If you peer close enough, you’ll notice that the final rendition of the unhinged Hulk still sports blood-red eyes. A deft touch, particularly when you consider that Marvel lore dictates that Grey Hulk actually represents a much more controlled, reticent version of Banner’s alter-ego, who even has the ability to speak. As such, perhaps cutting said scene proved to be for the best.

That’s not the only Age of Ultron tidbit we have for you today, though. Continuing on his unravelling of the blockbuster sequel, director Joss Whedon has been frank in his assessment, revealing that both Captain Marvel and Spider-Man were slated for a cameo appearance, but were ultimately cut to shave minutes off the ballooning run time.

Now, the filmmaker has touched on the future of Quicksilver in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
