Guardians of the Galaxy is a bit of an oddity in the Marvel Universe. Don’t get me wrong, it seems like a cool film and I know it has its loyal fanbase, but compared to the rest of the properties that we’ve been seeing from the comic book juggernaut lately, it’s more of a difficult sell when it comes to attracting mainstream audiences.
Aside from casting news and a bit of speculation, we still don’t know too much about the film and likely won’t for some time. Everyone’s excited to see the first glimpse of footage but with that August 1st, 2014 release date still over a year away, I wouldn’t expect a trailer anytime soon. For now, all we can hope for is that the characters show up in other Marvel films, which seems likely given the company’s history of teasing their future films with their current ones.
On that note, today we’re hearing that Guardians of the Galaxy may be teased in Thor: The Dark World. In an interview with Flicks and the City, actor Clive Russell spoke about what it was like working with the various actors in the upcoming Thor sequel. Russell plays Thor’s brother Tyr and when answering the question, he mentioned something very interesting.
Check out his quote below:
“I worked with Benicio Del Toro on a scene in which he was meant to be quite angry, and sitting fifteen feet away I couldn’t hear a word he was saying. But you look on at the screen, and it’s absolutely there.”
As we all know, or should know, Del Toro has been cast in Guardians of the Galaxy as The Collector. Though that’s unconfirmed by Marvel (the character he’s playing, not his casting), all signs point to it being so. If Russell is saying what we think he is, that means Del Toro has a scene in Thor: The Dark World and thus, Marvel will be teasing the Guardians of the Galaxy in their upcoming Thor sequel.
Now, this could all be one huge misunderstanding, as is usually the case with these things. Russell could just be speaking in general terms, saying he’s worked with Del Toro in the past, which is very likely seeing as the two did star in The Wolfman together.
So, take this as you will but for now, we’ll file it under the rumor section. Still, it’s interesting to think about and whether it’s in Thor: The Dark World or another Marvel film, I’m sure we’ll be seeing the Guardians of the Galaxy sooner rather than later.
