As question marks continue to loom over the future of Chris Evans (Captain America) and, to a slightly lesser extent, Robert Downey Jr. in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, one Hollywood star that has no intention of heading for the exit door anytime soon is Chris Pratt, who told /Film that he wants to continue playing Star-Lord for as long as possible.
The outlet caught up with the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 star in anticipation of the sequel’s UK launch on April 28th, and it was here that Pratt addressed his current Marvel contract. With so many moving pieces to consider within the MCU, the finer details of an actor’s contract tend to fuel heated debate online, as budding fans attempt to gauge a character’s eventual fate. By the same token, the Powers That Be over at Marvel often uphold a strict level of secrecy when negotiating with each of their primary stars, and round and round on the rumor mill we go.
But if you’re worried that Chris Pratt was ready to hang up those rocket-powered boots as Star-Prince Star-Lord, don’t be; the former Parks and Recreation actor wants to remain a fixture of the Marvel universe until such a time as when the studio writes Peter Quill out of the equation – or rather, wraps up his personal arc.
Per /Film:
I’ll tell you, as much as I love Marvel, it doesn’t matter how many I have contracted, because I’m going to continue to work with them.
I want to – I love working with them. I’m going to continue to work with them whether they like it or not. Even if they write me out, I’m going to show up on set and be like, ‘Hey, man!’ They’re done. They don’t get to shake me.
Elsewhere, the outlet also asked Pratt whether Star-Lord is in any way involved in the upcoming Captain Marvel solo movie, to which he replied: “I don’t know.”
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is almost upon us. Soon after the sequel’s UK premiere, those in North America can look forward to welcoming Star-Lord and the gang on May 5th. Thanks to the release of 2018’s Avengers: Infinity War, we don’t have to wait another three years to catch the Guardians on the big screen, and we understand Marvel’s motley crew will bring some “levity” to the otherwise dramatic Infinity War.
