Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3, like all other films that constitute Marvel’s Phase 4, is currently shrouded in a veil of secrecy so thick, even the all-seeing eyes of Heimdall would have trouble parsing James Gunn’s space-faring threequel.
All we know for sure is that Gunn is in possession of a script, and that Marvel has reportedly earmarked a release date in 2020 (May, perhaps?) for Star-Lord’s next adventure.
And though Avengers: Infinity War is naturally gobbling up headlines left, right and center in anticipation of its North America debut in a few hours (eek!), Peter Quill himself, Chris Pratt, offered up some clues as to what Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 has in store. Spoilers: it’s “going to be freaking amazing.”
Said he:
Um, I know the story. It’s going to be freaking amazing. This is, very intentionally [and] essentially, the wrap-up of a trilogy, and so the first film, the second film, and the third film each are standalone films. But there’s an arc from the first to second to third that will wrap up through the film, and it’s imaginative, it’s big — it’s bigger, better, faster, stronger, funnier… It’s gonna be great, I’m so excited.
Of course, an actor championing one of their upcoming projects like it’s the best thing since sliced bread is nothing new, but given the pure, cinematic joy that is Guardians of the Galaxy Volumes One and Two, we’re hopeful that Pratt is right in saying that James Gunn is about to deliver something truly special in two years’ time.
It’ll also be the final chapter in Star-Lord’s trilogy, though the question remains: will Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 feel the lasting effects of Infinity War and its untitled sequel? Time will tell.
