After a seven-year hiatus, the notorious Jigsaw Killer has returned in time to claim Halloween.
But John Kramer’s reign at the top won’t last for long, as David Gordon Green and Jamie Lee Curtis are now in the process of courting Michael Myers back to the fray. As far as horror icons go, Myers is right up there with the greatest (and most terrifying!) creations in film history, so it’s small wonder why Green’s Halloween sequel – dubbed a “reinvention” of the famous franchise – has generated so much excitement.
Sadly, it won’t be with us until 2018, but Jamie Lee Curtis took to Twitter earlier this morning to offer up the next best thing: a tongue-in-cheek teaser for next year’s reboot. Talk about celebrating All Hallow’s Eve in style! Bearing the caption, “some wounds never heal,” Curtis’ scream queen is pictured alongside Michael Myers. Sporting a rather gruesome cut on her left shoulder, the iconic duo is seen here lying on a bed of autumnal leaves.
Said to herald the “final confrontation” between Laurie and Michael, Halloween also has another ace in the hole in the form of John Carpenter, the illustrious director who has agreed to score David Gordon Green’s reboot.
But even after all these years, Laurie Strode will be the beating heart of the story, which will unfold like so: “Laurie Strode comes to her final confrontation with Michael Myers, the masked figure who has haunted her since she narrowly escaped his killing spree on Halloween night four decades ago.”
The Halloween reinvention of 2018 will ignore all other sequels in the series canon – barring the first, of course – and it’ll be with us on October 19th, 2018. Judy Greer is also in talks to play Laurie’s daughter (Karen Strode), though we’re still awaiting official confirmation on that front.
